I never knew I was even eligible to work for NASA until I saw them at the Business Career Fair at A&M. Once I saw the booth that was set up I grabbed a cool looking shuttle pen they were giving away and made that booth my number one priority. I talked with them for a bit then handed in my resume and the rest is history.

My first tour was in the fall of 2004 as a Contract Specialist in the Projects Procurement Office working in conjunction with the Space and Life Sciences Directorate awarding grants, cooperative agreements, and purchase orders with universities, institutions and governmental agencies. This tour was an amazing experience and I enjoyed every aspect of it.

My second tour is in LE, Engineering Resources during the summer of 2005. Here, I was a Budget Analyst under the Office of the Chief Financial Officer supporting Structural Engineering Division. Some of my responsibilities included maintaining budgets, forecasting data, and creating/maintaining budget databases. This tour has allowed me to learn a lot about the world of finance at NASA and has strengthened my skills in Excel. The great thing about both tours is that you never stop learning. My next tour is scheduled for the spring of 2006.

On my third tour I worked in Logistics as a Property Administrator where I helped track and closeout property for different contractors. One of the best parts of this job was getting to do property audits for different contractors which means going to their place and inspecting all the cool things we give them. I also was on a team for the closeout of the Space Shuttle and helped with loads on the Super Guppy for parts that will be flown on the International Space Station. I also have also assisted in the disposal of space artifacts and the donation of these artifacts to schools and museums.

Me & Gene Kranz
Me & Gene Kranz

One of my favorite moments while working at NASA was attending a lecture from Gene Kranz. He has a huge influence in the space program and has led a very interesting life. Read the bio on him if you want to know more. As I am writing this, I just got back from the auditorium and saw the RTF launch. I can only imagine what it is like to see a launch in person.

When I'm not at work I usually stay pretty busy. I don't think I have gotten bored once this semester. The co-op social life is crazy; it's as if once you're off of work you're back in college. I also like to spend a lot of my time volunteering at the Animal Shelter. I don't have a backyard so I can't have a dog quite yet, so it makes a good substitute. I also like to play sports and just get outside. I am also trying to teach myself how to play the guitar in my spare time.trying is the key word.

Me

Basically to sum this all up, being a co-op at NASA is fun whether you are on the clock or not.

If you have a chance to work here at NASA and have a passion for space, don't pass it up, it is an amazing experience and if you have any questions just email me at lamarmueller@yahoo.com
