About Me~

Sitting in the office

Well, where shall I begin...? I'm from Wichita, KS born and raised. I have an amazing mother and father/step-father and my little sister who's my best friend. I'm a marketing/business admin major attending Wichita State University. I'm a senior but am desperately prolonging my graduation date so that I may fit in my tours here at NASA. I try to stay actively involved in school. I am a member of SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management), Alpha Kappa Psi ( an honorary co-ed business fraternity), and NSCS (National Society for Collegiate Scholars). Pulling over-nighters in the library is my kind of fun (haha, just kidding) . I love going to the gym, anything outdoors, KU basketball games, sky diving, the beach, pilates, fishing, cooking, Grey's Anatomy, traveling, watching football, scattergories, and shopping. Obtaining an internship here at NASA was not something that I had really ever thought about, but now that I am here I wouldn't trade it for the world.

My Work~

This is my first tour here at NASA, Fall 2006. As a business major I work in the Institutional Procurement Office. I have had the opportunity to learn about the Federal Acquisition Process and contract management. I have gained many valuable skills including teamwork, leadership, and compromise. The work that I do can be demanding at times but not overly difficult. It has allowed me to put to use all of the knowledge that I have taken in over the years in the classroom at Wichita State. The experience here has been a challenging one that has taught me both technical career skills as well as taught me a lot about the person that I am.

The BIG Move~

Minute Maid Park

Moving here to Houston, Texas was definitely a huge step for me. As I said, I'm from Wichita, Kansas, born and raised. I had never moved away from home before. My family and I are very close so making the decision to pick up and move to Texas where I knew no familiar faces or directions to anywhere was a difficult decision to make. The hardest part is being away from your familiar surroundings and learning to live on your own with no help and guidance. The experience here has taught me a lot. I know that I am capable of managing money to pay my own bills and being an adult on my own.

Co-op Life~

Life here as a co-op is an amazing experience. I have made friendships during my first tour that will last a lifetime. There is never a dull moment during after hours. During the week we enjoy doing things such as catching movies, playing intramural sports, taking group exercise classes at the Gilruth Rec Center on site, grabbing a bite to eat, and watching local bands play. The weekends are always the best though. We have enough time to take road trips to places like Galveston Island to camp, to San Antonio to float the Guadalupe River, to Austin to visit Sixth Street, and to Dallas to go shopping.

And the best part about it all is there is NO HOMEWORK. Just working hard during the day and enjoying your time off. The opportunities to do things here are endless. I have been here for 5 months and I still have yet to see many things that Houston and the state of Texas has to offer. I absolutely LOVE it here!
