:: JSC Co-op Program Background
Since it opened in the early 1960's, Johnson Space Center has enabled college students from all over the country to become involved with the space program. Through the Cooperative Education Program, the largest student education program at JSC, students - "Co-ops" - are given practical experience applying principles and theories learned in the classroom. JSC also benefits from this program by receiving a source of future employees for scientific, engineering, and administrative positions.
Co-ops work at JSC on alternate semesters or quarters (ranging from 10 to 20 weeks) as paid, full-time employees in positions directly related to their field of study. Co-ops are full-time students, both graduate and undergraduate, with a mean grade point average range of 3.3 to 3.5, and also have at least 30 hours from an accredited four-year educational institution.
